Don’t create accounts just because

You were told to do so because it will help your business or everybody is doing it. It may be great for your business but if you are not clear with the benefits of social media, then the chances are you are not going to utilize it fully; you might burn your fingers. You need time to understand social media and how it can do to help your business, same goes to sufficient budget.

Don’t favour quantity over quality

Your social media presence should be about brand awareness and customer engagement; these goals should be at the heart of your business strategy on social media. Many businesses use social media as a channel for broadcasting or sales, but it is not just a free advertising platform, social media has the credibility to build bonding between you and your target audience as long as you get your content right. The number of shares, likes, and retweets is not everything; you need to get what your target audiences’ demands and needs with a content strategy in place. When you have the quality, the shares, likes, and retweets will take care of themselves.

Don’t ignore or remove negative comments

Building rapport and bonds with your customer is vital, replying comments is a beginning of a dialogue with them, that is the exact moment where they give you permission to interact with them. Not only through comments, most of the social medias has their own live chat, the fastest way to get engaged with the audience. Respond to customers promptly is also to show your balanced social presence with the network strength you have built.

Of course we would to like look decently dressed, but sweeping the negative comments under the carpet is not going to help you and in fact in will jeopardise the bonds you have made. This would simply be going to infuriate dissatisfied customers even more. No organization is perfect, but you must show that you are prepared to face any circumstances and learn from it. So remember, when this happens, be professional and don’t be defensive. We can never stop people from complaining about us, but we can demonstrate the willingness to learn from mistakes.

Targeting your business audience via social media sounds like an exceptional idea, but everything in this world has its pros and cons, social media could backfire your business too. In the end of the day, you just need the right balancing and embraced social media to its full potential. Social media (especially in business strategy) has evolved, it is no longer an option, but a necessity to all human activity.
